Renewable energy developer The Blue Circle and leading clean energy group Annex Power have announced a partnership to develop wind power plants in Thailand.

In a statement, the companies said the partnership was expected to lead to renewable energy investments of an estimated 248 million Singapore dollars (£116m) in Thailand.

Daniel Gaefke, managing director of Annex Power said, “Combining The Blue Circle’s wind experience in Europe, North America, South Africa and Australia with Annex Power’s track record in solar, hybrid systems and biogas will create a powerful partnership to successfully develop projects in the country”.

The two firms plan to commit resources and focus mainly on small projects and develop sites all over Thailand using cutting edge technologies to get the most efficient clean power development possible.

“The Blue Circle is proud to partner with such an established group in renewable energy in Thailand as Annex Power, and is committed to be a significant player in the wind sector in Thailand.

“The current situation is similar to France in 2002, just prior to the wind market taking off from installation of 100 MW a year to 1,000 MW,” said Olivier Duguet, chief executive officer for The Blue Circle.

The Blue Circle operates in Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia and is based in Singapore. They say “human pressure on the environment is not sustainable” and aim to develop both wind and solar projects.

Annex Power is a leading renewable energy group in Southeast Asia and have experience in large-scale solar, wind and biogas projects. They provide engineering and construction and want to promote a positive environmental and community impact.

Officials in Thailand have been pushing the renewable energy sector, with the goal to derive 25% of the total power from clean energy sources by 2021.
