Sustainable September to be supported by Charity Bank
Wednesday, July 16th, 2014 By
Charity Bank – a bank that exclusively serves the social economy – is one of the partners of Blue & Green Tomorrow’s month-long sustainability celebration, Sustainable September.
During the month of September visionaries and thought leaders will be brought together to discuss all aspects of sustainability. An Oxford-style debate on sustainable tourism, which will ask if growth in tourism is desirable, will kick off a series of events that aim to inform and entertain.
Debates on energy, retail and investment will follow this, with an all day conference closing the celebration on September 30.
The Charity Bank is supporting Blue & Green Tomorrow in organising the events. The ethical bank is totally transparent about how the money customers deposit is used and aims to offer a fair rate of interest to compliment this. The niche market it operates in, coupled with Charity Bank’s specialist knowledge, means that it has been able to provide flexible loans to more than 1,000 charities, community organisations and social enterprises.
Charity Bank was incorporated in 2001 and registered as a charity the following year. Within just five years loan enquires exceeded £100 million, demonstrating the demand from the sector. Last year the bank stopped being registered as a charity, in order to meet new capital requirements on banking institutions and meet growing demand. However, its charitable purpose is enshrined in its amended articles of association.
Charity Bank’s mission remains to attract capital from social investors, take savings from socially conscious individuals and lend solely to social purpose organisations, and, as a result, be the most admired bank in the UK.
