Doncaster Chamber of Commerce first to gain Investment in Young People (IiYP) Accreditation

IiYP Accreditation

As a part of supporting the nation’s employability skills of its young people, in preparation for entering into employment, Young Chamber UK is pleased to announce that Doncaster Chamber of Commerce has become the first Chamber in the country to be granted Investment in Young People accreditation.

The process involved completing an online self-assessment which was followed up by a face to face visit to confirm all of the excellent work that Doncaster Chamber has been doing in support of preparing young people for employment.
Dan Fell, Chief Executive of Doncaster Chamber said: “This process not only helps to celebrate the great work that Doncaster Chamber staff have been doing in supporting this important agenda but also highlights how imperative it is for all businesses to get involved in activities that help ‘bridge the gap’ between business and education.
Helping young people become work ready is an issue close to the hearts of Chambers up and down the country; indeed, developing our future workforce is absolutely critical to our local and national economic prosperity.
The Investment in Young People (IiYP) accreditation demonstrates that we are very much committed to ‘walking it like we talk it’ when it comes to the issue of supporting young people into the world of work.  As a Chamber we endeavour to be progressive in all that we do and, as such, I am delighted that we are the first Chamber of Commerce in the UK to achieve this accreditation.”
Neville Reyner CBE, Chairman of Young Chamber (Investment in Young People) said:“This award has been developed to recognise all the voluntary work that an incredibly wide range of businesses across the country provide to help young people develop the skills that employers are looking for. Investment in Young People has come out of the work that we have done through the Young Chamber initiative where we recognised that there was a lot of support from local business but no formal recognition for business.
The Investment in Young People mark has been developed over a number of years to acknowledge this important contribution from Business and to encourage them to stay involved”.
Having now achieved the IiYP accreditation Doncaster Chamber will be working with its local business community to support other businesses gain the IiYP Award in recognition of their work supporting young people’s transition from education into the world of work. Interested businesses should contact the Chamber for further information.
