10 Ways to Support Animal Rights from Home

Published

on

Everyone is capable of helping with an animal rights campaign on some level. Animals face many challenges that are out of their control including disease, mistreatment, and neglect and abandonment. Despite growing awareness of these challenges, there’s still a great need to be filled.

If you’re looking to support animal rights, but don’t feel you have the time or ability to drop everything and get involved, there are several ways you can support the cause from home.

Get Involved Online

Social media, newsletters, blogs, public service announcements, and other online resources are all great ways for you to get involved and show your support. This way, you can stay informed and provide your friends and family with an education, as well.

Give Financial Support

You may not have the ability to devote your life to helping animals, but you can at least give to those who can. Whenever you come across a legitimate, credible fundraiser and you have the means to do so, give a little to support the cause.

Spay or Neuter Pets

Every year in the United States alone, more than 6 million pets are left at animal shelters. Most of these animals are euthanized because the shelters don’t have the resources to house all of them. Do the responsible thing and spay or neuter your pets to help remedy this unfortunate situation.

Raise Awareness

Be sure that those around you are aware of the startling commonality of animal abandonment and neglect. The more people you reach with this message, the more that good can be done.

Make a Statement Against Animal Cruelty

Boycott organizations that rely on animal testing and other forms of cruelty to make their products. In addition, limit the amount of animal skin clothing and shoes you own.

Report Animal Abuse

When you see animal abuse in any form, whether at a neighbor’s house or in an alleyway, always report it to an organization that can take action. It’s okay if you send these reports anonymously, but you should never ignore abuse.

Check Out Your Local Chapter

Every community likely has a local animal rights chapter you can join or lend your support to. You’ll find more localized opportunities to help further the campaign through this method.

Manifest Your Support

Put a sign in your yard to show you spay and neuter your pets. Place a bumper sticker on your car to outwardly display your dislike for animal cruelty. Post an uplifting story about an animal rescue on your social media. Each of these things can propel the animal rights movement ahead, thanks to you.

Bring it Up in Conversation

You don’t have to ramble on about animal rights to your friends, but if it comes up naturally in conversation, be sure to state your views. Your friends will respect you for sharing your opinions when the time is appropriate, especially if you aren’t shoving your message down their throats.

Be Informed

Read up as much as you can on the subject so that you can defend yourself and a pet, should the need arise. You’ll need to know what you’re talking about if you want to make your case against those who don’t support animal rights, and doing your research and staying involved are the best ways to do that.
