The country’s universities have been put on high alert as the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, the UK’s flagship offshore renewables technology innovation and research centre, seeks to appoint a new scientific chair in wind and ocean conditions.

The Catapult has invited applications as it seeks to expand the research capability of its Wind and Ocean Conditions Research Team and to provide a stronger offering to industry stakeholders.

Providing scientific leadership and strategic guidance, the new scientific chair will form part of the wider offering provided by the Catapult in its operations and maintenance knowledge area.

The scientific chair will be appointed by the successful university, and universities have until noon on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 to submit their applications.

In recent years we have seen acceleration in research geared towards lowering the cost of offshore renewable energy

Ignacio Marti, ORE Catapult’s Innovation and Research Director, said: “In recent years we have seen acceleration in research geared towards lowering the cost of offshore renewable energy, but many challenges still lie ahead and we cannot be complacent in achieving our goals.

“Bringing industry and academia closer together means we are better equipped to tackle these issues, leverage further competitive R&D funding and, importantly, maintain the UK’s position at the forefront of the offshore renewables revolution.”
