Social Entrepreneurs And Charities Invited To Unlock Their Digital Potential In Liverpool
Thursday, September 1st, 2016 By
A free Google Digital Garage workshop has been put on in Liverpool, inviting social entrepreneurs and charities to help them better understand the benefits being online can bring to their organisation.
The free half-day workshop is hosted by Lloyds Bank and delivered in collaboration with Google and Lloyds Bank’s Social Entrepreneurs programme, run in partnership with the School for Social Entrepreneurs North West (SSE North West). It is designed to help participants understand how they can grow their reach and engagement online with top tips for making the most of the web for non-profit organisations and a session on how to best use social media and free online tools.
Google’s Digital Garages focus on assisting those looking for a ‘digital tune-up’ to learn the skills they need to make the most of the web. They look to equip participants with the knowledge they need to “turbocharge” growth, with the workshops acting as a one stop shop.
The workshop will take place on the 7th September at SSE North West, Blackburne House, Liverpool. It will be followed by a networking event where attendees can discuss what they’ve learnt with their peers as well as representatives from Google, Lloyds Bank and Reason Digital, a specialist agency that works with voluntary organisations, community groups and other pro-social organisations to change the world using digital technology.
Lloyds Bank’s commitment to social enterprise and Digital Champions
Lloyds Bank is hosting the event as an extension of its award-winning Lloyds Bank Social Entrepreneurs programme, which is run in partnership with the School for Social Entrepreneurs and with funding from Big Lottery Fund. Over 1,300 social entrepreneurs will have participated in the programme by 2017, with over 7,000 jobs being created and 1.1 million beneficiaries supported.
Launched in 2012, the programme has supported over 1,000 social entrepreneurs to date through the provision of a financial grant, business mentor from Lloyds Bank and year-long facilitated learning programme with the School for Social Entrepreneurs.
Paula Rogers, Head of Enterprise Programmes at Lloyds Banking Group said; ‘We have seen first-hand the challenges that social entrepreneurs can face from a lack of basic digital skills. Through our partnership with Google, we will be able to help empower them to increase their online presence and sustainability in today’s digitised world.
“As part of Lloyds Banking Group’s ambition to help Britain prosper we are committed to increasing digital skills and supporting social entrepreneurs to develop sustainable business for the benefit of their local communities.”
Eileen Naughton, Google’s Managing Director for UK & Ireland adds:
In the digital age, a basic understanding of how the online world works is useful
“In the digital age, a basic understanding of how the online world works is useful; and when it comes to business, it’s essential. We are welcoming everyone in the Liverpool area to attend seminars delivered by Google’s Digital Garage experts and learn more about how digital can help them grow.”
Lloyds Bank, as part of its Helping Britain Prosper Plan, is committed to helping charities and businesses improve their digital skills and Lloyds Banking Group has committed to delivering 20,000 voluntary Digital Champions by 2017 to improve the digital capability of its customers.
