Specialist energy and environment merchant bank, Turquoise International, has supported the installation of a unique, 20 metre painting by award-winning artist, Susan Gunn, in the main atrium of the University of East Anglia’s new gateway building – The Enterprise Centre.

Entitled ‘Terra Memoria’, the low carbon artwork uses sustainable and natural materials to evoke ambition and innovation in the realms of architecture and art. Designed to celebrate art in public spaces, the piece will reside as a permanent installation

A Passivhaus and BREEAM Outstanding building, The Enterprise Centre features a timber frame and straw cladding to reduce carbon and promote the use of renewable materials in building. Its light and airy interior is complemented with natural and low carbon materials, promoting health and wellbeing for its users.

Turquoise has a longstanding relationship with the University of East Anglia (UEA), through its role as fund manager of the Low Carbon Innovation Fund (LCIF), which is operated by UEA’s Adapt Low Carbon Group.

At the official launch, Ali Naini, managing director at Turquoise International, commented: “The Enterprise Centre is one of the greenest buildings in the UK, and Susan’s work – a monumental piece comprising 11 parts made with natural materials – perfectly demonstrates the ethos of sustainability and low carbon development that runs through the architecture and operation of the site.

“The display showcases both the beauty and practical attributes of low carbon materials, one of the core investment themes of the Low Carbon Innovation Fund. We have worked with the University for over five years and Turquoise’s sponsorship of this work reflects the success of the public-private model under which LCIF operates and invests.

“Our hope is that Terra Memoria and The Enterprise Centre continue to inspire individuals and organisations to develop ever-more innovative environmental solutions over the coming years.”

Terra Memoria is free to view, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, at The Enterprise Centre, University of East Anglia Norwich Research Park, NR4 7TJ.
