Volvo: doing its bit to destroy the planet
Volvo released its 2011 CSR and Sustainability Report recently, and despite claiming to possess a vision “to become the world leader in sustainable transport solutions“, the figures emerging from the Swedish car manufacturer suggest it may have a long way to go.
Between 2010 and 2011, its environmental impact increased significantly. Hazardous waste rose by 14%, its energy use by 7%, its water consumption by 6%, and its solvent emissions by 11%. But don’t worry, its net sales have gone up by 17%, which we are led to believe is progress.
Having said that, its carbon emissions decreased by 9%, which most certainly is progress.
