The Body Shop and EINE Raise over £325,000 For Global Projects

In collaboration with EINE, one of the world’s most renowned street artists, The Body Shop has called upon the power of their customers and have raised over £325,000 for The Body Shop Foundation.

The Body Shop Foundation is the charitable arm of The Body Shop which funds innovative social and environmental projects around the world.

Throughout the campaign, The Body Shop sold a redesigned version of one of its most iconic products, its Hemp Hand Protector, with charitable limited edition packaging. The Body Shop worked closely with Ben EINE to create the unique packaging which featured EINE’s famous typography spelling out the powerful positive message of ‘CHANGE’ across the front of the product, a message that embodies the ethos of both EINE and The Body Shop.

For every tube of limited edition Hemp Hand Protector or Almond Hand & Nail Cream sold, £1.50 was donated to The Body Shop Foundation. Customers were then asked to vote on where they believed the funds should be spent from a number of key social and environmental problems. Over 200,000 hand creams were sold around the world.

The Body Shop’s customers selected the following issues for the funds to be spent on (in order):

1. Our People & Animals

2. Our Planet

3. Our Ocean

Funds were split according to the votes cast and 17 global groups have been funded with more than £300,000 between them. The beneficiary groups work on issues from e-waste to endangered species, from turning plastics into fuel to a global mobile app for holiday makers to highlight animal suffering.

Jeremy Schwartz, CEO of The Body Shop International says: “The Body Shop continues to excite our customers with new ideas. For the launch of our Enrich Not Exploit™ Commitment in February, announcing 14 targets in our aim to be the world’s most ethical and truly sustainable business, we partnered with a world-renowned street artist to redesign the packaging on one of our best-selling products. Not only is the Hand Protector a great product, but people from all over the world have responded positively to the ethics behind the product and our leadership in this area. Following global voting by customers of The Body Shop, more than 200,000 hand creams have been sold across the world, with each customer voting on one of three issues close to the customers’ heart”.

Ben Eine says, “When The Body Shop first approached me about this project and said that together we could raise £300,000 for important causes, I didn’t hesitate to get involved. The fact that we surpassed the target and sold more hand creams with my CHANGE artwork on it and have been able to donate £28K more is truly awesome. It proves that people still care about making positive change and are taking action into their own hands.”

Lisa Jackson, CEO of The Body Shop Foundation says: “We are delighted to be part of the exciting collaboration between EINE and The Body Shop; it’s a simple but powerful message that is at the heart of our work. Every customer that has purchased this hand cream has helped us create positive, powerful global change by supporting innovative, community based groups working to make a real difference”.
