Leading renewable energy supplier Good Energy has been named Best Utilities PLC at the 2014 UK Stock Market Awards.

The 100% green energy provider took home the award after an event at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London, in a competition that celebrates publicly-listed British organisations and their contribution to the economy.

Commenting on what it meant to win, Juliet Davenport, chief executive of Good Energy, said, “It is fantastic to be recognised at the UK Stock Market Awards.

“At Good Energy we strive to lead by example and to set the standard in the energy market as an ethically and socially responsible company, showing that an energy business can be commercially successful because of our values, not despite them.”

It is the latest in a series of accolades for the Chippenham-based firm, which won the title of best business initiative at the recent Climate Week Awards.

It also topped the annual Which? energy company survey of consumer satisfaction for the third year in a row earlier this year. Along with fellow green energy supplier Ecotricity, Good Energy achieved an overall score of 82%.

Both firms also feature in Ethical Consumer magazine’s list of the best green energy suppliers in the UK, with Good Energy coming out top.

In November, when the big six energy providers were announcing a series of winter price hikes, Good Energy and Ecotricity also took the unprecedented steps of freezing their gas and electricity prices.

Good Energy was later forced to increase dual fuel bills by 2.2%, because of “costs which are outside [its] control.

However, the firm added that even with the increase – which will see the average bill rise from £1,173 a year to £1,199 – the dual fuel rate was still cheaper than the standard tariffs offered by the big six suppliers.
