The UK Green Building Council has commented on reports today that the Mayor of London Boris Johnson is still committed to delivering zero carbon homes in London.

London Assembly Member Nicky Gavron asked the Mayor during Question Time yesterday whether he had lobbied Government on zero carbon homes. Mr Johnson responded that London would continue with its commitment to zero carbon homes past 2016 through the London Plan.

Louise Sunderland, Senior Policy Advisor at the UK Green Building Council, said: “We were extremely disappointed when the Government scrapped the zero carbon policy in the Summer. We therefore welcome the Mayor’s commitment to maintaining the zero carbon homes policy for London.

“Building new homes to a lower standard just stores up a retrofit problem for the future. So it is not surprising that a city leader is still committed to new homes of the highest quality which will deliver significant benefits to residents and the local area.”
