100% renewables supplier Good Energy reaches 100,000 customers
Good Energy, the 100% renewable electricity supplier, is celebrating reaching a major landmark in its continued growth, after welcoming its 100,000th customer.
The firm, which was named the best green energy company by Ethical Consumer in July, makes the announcement in its interim report for the first half of 2013.
The report also outlines a profit increase of 23%, and notes “strong growth” in terms of both its finances and customer base.
It now has more than 100,000 customers across its electricity, gas and feed-in tariff (FIT) businesses. Whilst the number of electricity customers grew by 16% on the first half of 2012, gas increased by 64% and a 33% increase on feed-in tariff customers.
As of 2011, the ‘big six’ suppliers made up over three-quarters of the electricity market. But Good Energy’s continued growth suggests that an increasing number of people are becoming disillusioned with mainstream firms and seeking out more ethical alternatives.
The firm’s interim report says it is preparing for a new wind farm, currently under construction in Hampole, near Doncaster. Once completed, the site will increase Good Energy’s generation by 100%. Local residents will benefit from a 20% discount on energy bills.
Speaking about the report, Juliet Davenport, CEO of Good Energy, said, “We are encouraged by our progress so far this year. Good Energy has performed in line with expectations and we are successfully delivering on our plans. Two important highlights include starting construction on Hampole wind farm and reaching the landmark of 100,000 electricity, gas and FIT customers in September.”
She added, “Good Energy is well placed to successfully deliver our strategic goals, underpinned by our commitment to a cleaner, greener and more secure energy future for the UK.”
