Galloper wind farm first UK project backed by EUR 315 billion Investment Plan for Europe
The European Investment Bank, Europe’s long-term investment institution, has agreed to provide GBP 225 million for the Galloper Wind Farm Ltd (GWFL) to be constructed 27 km off the Suffolk Coast. Once operational the offshore wind farm will be capable of providing enough clean energy to supply up to 336,000 homes from the world’s largest wind turbines. Today, the President and CEO of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Peter Bakker launches an analysis by PwC showing that the ambitions of WBCSD’s Low Carbon Technology Partnerships initiative (LCTPi) could deliver 65% of the carbon emission reductions needed to keep the rise in global temperatures to under 2°C. The world’s largest floating offshore wind development will be installed off the coast of Peterhead after the application has been granted a marine licence by the Scottish Government. It is expected that the Hywind Scotland development could power up to 19,900 houses. Read more.
