Community heating metering and billing specialist Switch2 has been short listed for three European Smart Energy Awards 2016. The Yorkshire-based company has reached the finals for the Service Provider Award; Smart Metering Technology of the Year Award; and the Meter Data Management Solution of the Year Award.

The European awards, now in their seventh year, recognise excellence in smart technology for utilities.

Kirsty Lambert, Director of Switch2 said: “We are delighted to reach the finals of these prestigious European energy awards and to gain recognition for our new Incontro smart metering unit, which will take community heat metering to a new level. This is an intelligent energy hub – bringing together cost and demand. It incorporates a multi-fuel pay-as-you-go feature, along with a user friendly touch screen in-home display – enabling residents to monitor and manage their energy usage.

” Our UK designed and manufactured technologies are helping district and community heating customers to monitor their energy consumption and pay only for what they use. We also operate a national UK service centre and engineering support team, which provide metering, billing and prepayment services to more than 50,000 homes across 400 community and district heating schemes.”

Switch2’s new Incontro technology builds on the success of its G6 meter, which is transforming energy prepayment and credit billing on community heating schemes. The advanced technology is being used by many housing providers, such as Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing, Wakefield District Housing, and Notting Hill Housing. Sheffield City Council is predicting that the G6 will cut annual heating bills by a total of £1.4 million across 6,000 homes.
