Industry experts have recognised Peter Solly, wood fuel entrepreneur, for his contribution to sustainable energy, following news that he has been shortlisted for the Sustainable Energy Champion accolade in the South West Green Energy Awards.

Peter was shortlisted for the honour thanks to his role in leading the considerable expansion of Forest Fuels; taking it from being a small regional business in Devon to the UK’s largest and most successful wood fuel company; mentoring other professionals and putting them forward for career-developing roles; and nurturing an open, honest and ethical culture in the biomass industry.

Peter will find out if he has won the overall title at a dazzling awards ceremony at the Bath Assembly Rooms on 29 November.

Biomass wood fuel has become much more mainstream in the past few years and I have always maintained that the real competitors are oil and gas.

“I’m honoured to have been shortlisted for the Sustainable Energy Champion Award,” said Peter. “Biomass wood fuel has become much more mainstream in the past few years and I have always maintained that the real competitors are oil and gas – rather than others in the biomass industry.”

In 2010 Peter invested in Forest Fuels, took over as managing director, and set out a plan to grow the business organically and by acquisition.
