Dundee Furniture Firm Transforms with Revolve Seal of Approval
Business is booming at Transform Furniture – a second hand furniture store in Dundee – after it was awarded ‘Revolve’ accreditation from Zero Waste Scotland. Wherever displayed, the Revolve logo assures customers that they are buying from a great re-use shop with a commitment to providing only the highest quality second hand products and excellent customer service.
Transform Furniture, formerly known as Dundee Cyrenians, is part of the Transform Community Development charity that was established in 1975. Its aim is to provide residential accommodation for local homeless people, as well as supply furniture packs for homeless people moving into new homes.
It opened its Dundee shop on Commercial Street a year ago and since then has seen a steady increase in demand for the wide range of household furniture items it receives from donations.
Simon Laidlaw, Transform Community Development’s Chief Executive, said:
“We’ve seen demand for our refurbished furniture steadily increase over the last year, showing that people are much more comfortable these days with buying second hand items as opposed to new. Little wonder, when you consider they usually cost much less and are often a much better quality.
“We pride ourselves on the quality of the refurbished furniture we sell. Our Revolve accreditation recognises the meticulous efforts of our fantastic staff, who are committed to giving our customers great quality, value and service.
“Not only that, our customers enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that they are supporting vulnerable people in our community whilst helping the environment, and reducing the amount of material going to waste.
“Revolve accreditation is also going to be important to our development plans – we hope to move shortly into ‘upcycling’ products.”
Iain Gulland, Chief Executive, Zero Waste Scotland said “Transform Furniture is an outstanding example of a very effective social enterprise organisation. It not only has a positive impact on the environment by reducing waste, it also creates local jobs and saves people money on what can be normally expensive items for the home.
“I’m delighted to confirm its well-earned Revolve status, which gives a clear sign to the local community that they can have confidence in the products that Transform Furniture offers.”
As well as saving customers money, Revolve also aims to create a more sustainable approach to retail and to promote re-use in Scotland. Customers wishing to pass on their unwanted items to their nearest Revolve store can call the national re-use phone line on 0800 0665 820 to have their items collected.
