Triple-Award Sweep For Schoolhaus
Schoolhaus, which is now widely acknowledged as a remarkable net zero carbon building solution: the UK’s most energy efficient school buildings, with net zero running costs, have been handed three awards in one week.
- BusinessGreen Technology Awards’ Building Technology of the Year
- Energy Awards’ Public Building Energy Project of the Year
- Public Sector Energy Champions Awards for Education (Schools)
The latter two awards were for the Schoolhaus at Chalgrove Primary in Barnet, the UK’s most energy efficient school building. The first of these, Building Technology of the Year award, recognised the outstanding achievement as well as the performance credentials of the design for every Schoolhaus to date.
For classrooms, dining halls, theatres, and sports halls – Schoolhaus now occupies the top 30 ranked positions for UK education’s most efficient buildings. Schoolhaus buildings generate clean energy and revenue through their integrated solar PV roofs. There are over 50 Schoolhaus developments throughout the UK.
Everyone has to engage with energy in one way or another – it has an impact on the bottom line
Quotes:
“These awards are really important to us, given that energy is such a vital part of business and domestic life. Everyone has to engage with energy in one way or another – it has an impact on the bottom line; it has an impact on our comfort and the carbon it uses has an impact on the planet. The winners that we celebrate here are in the front line of managing energy, reducing energy consumption and promoting best practice for their employees and customers and they have shown a great deal of innovation in the process.” – Andrew Gaved, Energy Awards Host, and Editor-in-Chief, H&V News and RAC
“This award is richly deserved as the Schoolhaus project exemplifies the way to make schools energy efficient in a cost-effective way.” – Ralph Scrivens, Publisher of Energy Manager Magazine and Organiser of Public Sector Energy Champions Awards
“Of course we are delighted at the recognition that comes with these awards and we are grateful to all the judges involved. We have been banging the drum for improved energy efficiency within the built environment for several years so the awards provide us with added encouragement to keep on doing so and further develop innovation to improve building performance.” – Neil Gething, Commercial Director of UK Energy Partners, the company behind Schoolhaus
