Preparing a New Global Industry in the UK

Twice a day, every day, the Atlantic Ocean surges up on to the UK’s continental shelf and on to our coastline. This creates one of the highest tidal ranges in the world; an untapped energy source with huge potential.

Harvesting the natural power of our tidal ranges here in the UK will help transform how we generate energy and provide a catalyst for a new British engineering and construction industry.

Granted planning permission in June 2015, the 320MW project will catalyse a new global industry, born in Swansea Bay and bred across the UK, with the potential to create over 40,000 jobs and an export industry.

Roger Evans, Chair of the Independent Tidal Industry Advisory Group says: “Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon is the pathfinder for a new global industry.  Our message is clear: Welsh and UK Industry needs this opportunity.  If we get it right now, we sow the seeds for decades of industrial growth and employment across Wales, the Midlands, the Northern Powerhouse and beyond”.
