Good Energy scores full marks for ethics
In a study of UK renewable electricity suppliers by The Ethical Company Organisation, Good Energy has been awarded the top spot for a remarkable eighth consecutive year after receiving the maximum 100 marks.
The annual research considers a number of criteria from each company, including their environmental reports, energy mix and pollution.
And as the UK’s only 100% renewable electricity provider, Good Energy beat off competition from the likes of Green Energy, Ecotricity and LoCo2 Energy to come out on top.
“It is great news that we have been independently assessed and found to have the highest ethical standards”, said Juliet Davenport, CEO and founder of the company, which now boasts nearly 30,000 customers across the UK.
“The company was established 12 years ago to give consumers a choice about how the electricity they buy is generated.
“Since then we have been recognised again and again for our uncompromising approach to only sourcing renewable electricity on behalf of our customers.”
The news is another notch on Good Energy’s sustainability belt in 2012, after it came out top of Which? magazine’s customer satisfaction survey in February.
The overarching theme that emerges from the announcement is that renewable energy can only grow along the route to a more sustainable future.
But select your provider carefully. Some of the so-called ‘big six’ supposedly provide renewable electricity, but The Ethical Company Organisation’s ranking has well and truly exposed their cracks, with brands from EDF Energy, Scottish Power, Npower, Southern Electric and British Gas all receiving poor scores.
