UK finalists of 2015 Ashden Awards announced
Established in 2001, the Ashden Awards recognise and celebrate those working in sustainable energy. The finalists for the 2015 Ashden UK Awards have now been announced and highlight the diversity of the green energy sector.
This year’s seven finalists are The London Borough of Islington’s SHINE Initiative, Beat the Cold, Max Fordham, Demand Logic, Enistic, TGV Hydro, and The Low Carbon Hub. Together the shortlist represents organisations and individuals focusing on scaling up local renewable energy, helping to reduce energy consumption in large buildings, alleviating fuel poverty and increasing energy efficiency in building design.
Sarah Butler-Sloss, Ashden founder and director, said, “It’s exciting to see such a wide variety of initiatives that are finding innovative way of spreading the benefits of sustainable energy, which include helping reduce building running costs, tackling fuel poverty, and improving quality of life in our towns and cities.”
Four organisations have also been shortlisted for the 2015 Eurostar Ashden Awards for Sustainable Transport, including Reading Buses, a peer-to-peer car rental scheme in Bruges, Belgium, and a cycling business collective in Nantes, France. The shortlist for the international awards will be announced next week.
In total, 11 Ashden Award winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on June 11 at the Royal Geographical Society London. Award winners’ benefit from a financial prize and tailored business support to boost their chances of attracting new finance and customers.
