Gaeia sets birthday fundraising target of £1m
Ethical and environmental financial advice experts Gaeia have set a fundraising target of £1 million as part of their 20th birthday celebrations.
The money will go to the Band on the Wall Foundation, which gives a musical voice to disadvantaged young people in the North West region.
It is hoped that the donations will provide the foundation with a sustainable income to fund a music engagement programme, allowing them to expand the activities and engagement opportunities they currently offer. Through a range of courses, master class events, performance opportunities and mentoring, the foundation say they aim to enrich the lives of those who take part.
The founder of Gaeia, Brigid Benson, said. ”I think it’s an appropriate way for Gaeia to mark its 20th year. Gaeia had supported Bank on the Wall’s world and roots music programme for several years, but I was keen to do something that would be more sustainable and have a lasting and tangible social impact.”
The project is set to launch on 26 September and will be hosted by music producer and TV star David Gest. Gwen Dickey (Rose Royce) and Brinsley Forde (Aswad) are also set to perform exclusive sets.
Gavin Sharp, Band on the Wall CEO, said, “Making music transforms lives. The Band on the Wall Foundation aims to work with communities facing enormous challenges to provide an accessible music programme and a sustainable learning centre for young people and emerging musicians.
“It will give a musical voice to children and young people who are disadvantaged by economic deprivation, low educational achievements, crime, poverty and isolation.”
