Good Energy named best provider of renewable energy by Ethical Consumer
Good Energy has been labelled the best green energy provider by Ethical Consumer. The firm is the first and only UK supplier to generate 100% of its power from renewables.
CEO Juliet Davenport said, “This is an important recognition of the hard work we have put into making Good Energy the best green energy choice for British consumers, and I’m delighted to be able to celebrate our achievements this way.”
She added, “We basically buy all of our power from a mixture of renewable energy generators – from wind, solar, small hydro – and our business model is different from everybody else.”
Good Energy already produces 16% of its power through wind farms in Cornwall. In January, it rolled out a local tariff for customers living near its Delabole site in the region. By switching to the firm, people within a 2km radius would receive a 20% discount on their energy bills.
Davenport, who was awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List 2013 for services to renewable energy, revealed that there were more projects like this in the pipeline, including at a site near Doncaster. She added that customers can save between £30 and £80 a year by switching to Good Energy, compared to the big six’s standard green dual fuel tariffs.
Also faring well in Ethical Consumer’s clean energy supplier ranking were Ebico, Ecotricity, LOCO2 and Green Energy. The full results can be found here.
