Tackling food waste on World Food Day – infographic
Ahead of World Food Day, there couldn’t be a better time to remind ourselves about the incredible amount of food that is wasted around the world on a daily basis.
This infographic published by Ecocleen to mark World Food Day does just that. While it’s alarming to see that 3.5 million tonnes of food will be wasted today while 850 million people go hungry (the equivalent population of North America, Australia and the EU) the overriding message of the infographic is that by collectively making small changes we can make a massive difference.
Whether you’re at home, in the supermarket, or eating out, there are simple ways you can cut down the amount of food you waste. While being told to freeze food is hardly ground-breaking, we often forget to do the simplest of things. Hopefully these tips can act as a starting point, inspiring you to think of more ways to cut the amount of food that ends up going straight into the bin. And as the graphic shows, reducing food waste doesn’t just help the environment; it also helps your bank balance too.
