Blade Dynamics, the company developing the “Advanced Wind Turbine Blade Technology Industrialisation” project which put forward a proposal at KIC InnoEnergy’s Call for Innovation Projects in February of this year, has recently been acquired by GE.

GE’s interest in Blade Dynamics is based on its innovative technology which has the potential to radically transform the blade manufacturing process. They estimate that this will reduce the cost of electricity generation of the new, increasingly bigger wind turbines, particularly for offshore installations.

This project was one of six successful entrants to KIC InnoEnergy’s 2015 Call for Innovation Projects. This call aims to identify technologies which can make a difference in the field of sustainable energy, and support them through the product development process. The next Call for Innovation Projects will open on 15 January 2016.

Pepe Carnevale, CEO of Blade Dynamics, has thanked KIC InnoEnergy for its support and professionalism: “We have really appreciated working with the team at KIC InnoEnergy and I would like to sincerely thank you on behalf of all the Blade Dynamics team for your continued support and very professional attitude towards managing technology innovation”.

Antoni Martinez, CTO for Renewable Technologies at KIC InnoEnergy, said “The recognition by GE of the potential of Blade Dynamics is a great acknowledgement of the work that KIC InnoEnergy do in identifying and supporting talent in the field of sustainable energy. We’re very proud to have been a part of the development journey for Blade Dynamics”

KIC InnoEnergy’s primary objective is to drive development and share the risk with the project consortia in order to bring really innovative technologies or ideas to market.
