Fergus Ewing Welcomes SSE Cut Domestic Gas Prices
SEE is the second energy supplier this winter to announce price cuts and is to cut its standard gas tariff by 5.3%, saving a typical customer £32 a year. E.On said last week that it would cut also cut gas prices by 5.1%
The cut will take effect from the 29th March, meaning customers will not benefit during the winter season when customers use the most energy. While E.on’s cut will take place from the beginning of February.
Welcoming the news Energy Minister Fergus Ewing said “While this is welcome news for SSE’s customers, I want to see customers of other companies feel the benefit of lower wholesale gas and electricity prices. Cost savings should be passed on in full, and I have written to the UK’s leading energy suppliers to urge them to say how they plan to lower energy bills for households and businesses.”
