John Kerry Intervention On Montreal Protocol Welcomed By Christian Aid
US Secretary of State John Kerry’s statements at the meeting of the Montreal Protocol in Kigali, Rwanda have been welcomed by Christian Aid.
Gaby Drinkwater, Christian Aid’s Senior Policy Advisor, said:
“John Kerry is right when he says agreeing a deal to phase down the use of HFCs is the single most important step we can take to limit the warming of the planet.
As Kerry said, human ingenuity is driving developments in low carbon technology and sustainable refrigerants.
The potency of HFCs make them a uniquely dangerous threat to the promises in the Paris Agreement to try and keep temperature rise to 1.5 degrees centigrade.”
“As Kerry said, human ingenuity is driving developments in low carbon technology and sustainable refrigerants. Countries have nothing to fear from agreeing ambitious dates for an early phasedown of HFCs.”
