Friends Of The Earth Reaction To EU’s Proposals On Energy Efficiency And Renewable Power
In reaction to the EU’s proposals today to boost clean power and cut energy waste, Friends of the Earth energy campaigner Alasdair Cameron said:
“These EU measures on energy and efficiency should be the absolute minimum. The UK government must exceed these targets as part of its Brexit strategy.
“If the UK is to thrive then energy efficiency, renewable power and the transition to a low carbon economy must be at the heart everything it does.
“With its forthcoming industrial strategy there is a real opportunity for the UK to become a world leader in the new renewable economy – but it will take significantly more commitment and imagination than we have seen so far.
‘The government needs to give up on its pipedreams of fracking and fossil fuels, and focus on the future – wind, solar, smart technology and electric vehicles.”
