Ethical retailer John Lewis has won the top gong at the Verdict Customer Satisfaction Awards for the high quality of both products and services it offers to its customers.

Verdict Retail’s survey among more than 5,000 customers found that values-driven retailer John Lewis was the preferred choice for the quality of its products and customer service.

Dunelm and IKEA came second and third respectively. John Lewis scored the highest mark for housewares and electrical products, followed by Amazon, while H&M got the top position for the clothing sector and Amazon for the music and video one.

The food arm of John Lewis Waitrose got the first place for the food and grocery sector, followed by Aldi and Lidl.

The awards were announced at the London Stock Exchange on Wednesday.

Verdict’s lead analyst Sarah Peters commented, “John Lewis retained its title this year coming top overall as well as in its main product categories of homewares and electricals.  As Britain’s favourite retailer, John Lewis continues to deliver the product ranges, inspiration and trust that customers appreciate.”

John Lewis recently announced its staff would receive a 15% pay bonus as a result of steady growth. The company reported strong Christmas sales and was said to be among the most-sought employer, together with Unilever and Marks & Spencer.

The John Lewis partnership also revealed in December that it had closed a deal to power its stores with 100% renewable energy as an effort to cut its greenhouse gas emissions.
