One of the cleantech industry’s leading intelligence firms has joined forces with Facebook to offer a cash prize for an idea that will help promote clean energy and sustainability on the social network.
Cleantech Group is offering the winning entrant $25,000 (£15,900) to come up with a product, application or service that will engage Facebook’s billion person network on issues relating to the environment, energy and resources.
The winning entrant will also receive bespoke supervision from both firms on the future development of the concept.
“There’s no shortage of new, clean technology addressing the world’s increasingly critical energy and resource challenges”, said Sheeraz Haji, CEO of Cleantech Group.
“However, engaging the public on these issues and bringing these technologies into people’s homes and businesses at scale have remained elusive goals.
“Facebook, which connects more than a billion people around the world, provides companies and individuals with an unparalleled opportunity to address this adoption challenge.”
Facebook sustainability manager Bill Weihl added that the competition should “help to accelerate the adoption and impact of a wide range of sustainability-focused products and services.”
The deadline for submissions is March 4 – shortly after which three finalists will be narrowed down to one overall winner at the Cleantech Forum San Francisco. For more information, see Cleantech Group’s dedicated competition page.
