Blue & Green holiday cottages: Bowford Cottage, Lancashire
This beautiful cottage in Lancashire sleeps up to seven people and is available to book now through cottages4you.
Set amidst truly peaceful countryside and enjoying beautiful rural views to Beacon Fells, this very comfortable cottage is just 5 miles from roads offering swift access to a host of attractions. The Dales, the Lake District, Blackpool, Liverpool’s Albert Dock, the beaches of Lytham St Anne’s and Southport, and Manchester’s city delights are all easily within an hour’s drive.
Situated in the picturesque Ribble Valley and located close to the Forest of Bowland, Clitheroe is surrounded by some of Lancashire’s most stunning landscapes.
This little market town offers a traditional town centre with a mix of independent retailers and a castle which has one of the smallest Norman keeps in the UK; it’s also one of Lancashire’s oldest buildings.
The region has some of the UK’s finest unspoilt countryside; move out of town and you have a wealth of stunning landscapes to explore, some of which inspired a visiting JRR Tolkien when he spent time at Stonyhurst College. In the author’s time at Stonyhurst there was a ferry over the River Hodder that strongly resembled the ‘Buckleberry Ferry’. Similarly, the grey stone New Lodge is often thought to have inspired Tom Bombadil’s home from the famous saga. Of course, the best way to find out how much Tolkien was inspired by the region is to explore the delightful ‘Tolkien Trail’.
Riding and golf are available locally, whilst fishing and a swimming pool are 4 miles. Good restaurants, shop and pub are 1 mile.
Features: On the ground floor is a living room, dining room/kitchen and separate toilet. Three bedrooms, two double, one with en-suite, and one twin. There is also a bathroom and Z bed available.
Sleeps: 7 / Bedrooms: 3
