Forum for the Future’s Board of Trustees welcomes new bright individuals
Former RWE Npower CEO Volker Beckers and ethical living journalist Lucy Siegle are among the new members of sustainability not-for-profit organisation Forum for the Future’s Board of Trustees.
Forum for the Future works with businesses and governments to promote sustainability at all levels and it also manages a higher education programme, the Forum Leadership for Sustainable Development Masters.
Blue & Green Tomorrow has reviewed the graduation ceremony of 2014 graduates and spoken to them about their ideas for a cleaner and greener world.
The new members the Forum’s Board of Trustees are Volker Beckers, former group CEO at RWE npower, the Observer journalist Lucy Siegle, engineer Kelvyn Derrick OBE, chartered accountant and vice-chair of CARE International UK Fiona Thompson and deputy executive director of UNICEF UK Anita Tiessen.
Beckers said, “I am a firm believer in transformative change and that is what Forum is all about. If I can do anything to accelerate that change and make a contribution that would be fantastic.
“I have more than two decades’ experience working in energy, so will certainly be able to add a new dimension and approach to certain projects, as well as some expertise in programme management and hopefully a little bit of fun.”
Environmental journalist Lucy Siegle added, “I am really interested in getting out to the places not reached before, people who aren’t necessarily from Oxbridge and don’t have the intellectual view of sustainability, people who don’t think sustainability is for them.”
The Board will be responsible for ensuring the charity sticks to its aims and bringing forward its work adequately.
Sally Uren, Forum CEO, commented, “Forum has two main challenges going forward: one, to implement an ambitious strategy around system innovation; and two, to build successful operations in the US, Asia Pacific and India. Our new trustees will help on both counts.”
