Explorers of all ages will love a day out at Beeston Castle. With its woodland walks, Robin Hood cave, and lookout point at the top of a rocky summit, the castle is a fantastic destination for nature-lovers and adventurous children. We’ve put together wildlife trails to take you through the beautiful surrounding woodlands where you can spot a host of birds and small mammals, and there’s even the chance to hunt for the lost treasure of Richard II, believed to be buried somewhere in the castle grounds.

Harbour at Whitby

Family ticket £17.70 (2 adults and 3 children)
The atmospheric ruins of Whitby Abbey offer one of the best value days out in Yorkshire and the historic site is also home to one of our favourite visitor centres. Featuring remarkable archaeological finds, the museum is packed with computer-generated images and entertaining interactive displays, including touch-screens that allow you to question characters from Whitby’s history. But beware, the abbey is well known for its ghostly goings on so make sure to have your wits about you as you wander around the eerie grounds…
