Spending term of the day: locavore
A locavore is an individual who resolves to only eat food sourced from their local region. This decision is usually inspired by concerns over the sustainability of the person’s diet.
Sometimes referred to as being on a 100-mile diet, locavores seek to reduce the carbon footprint generated by the transportation of their food. This lifestyle choice also brings other benefits, as it helps local producers, and ensures food security.
It is a recently created term, and starred as the word of the year for 2007 in the Oxford American Dictionary.
