Deaf Adults to Receive More Support from Action on Hearing Loss
Action on Hearing Loss has stepped in to take over more services since another company went into administration in December last year. The national charity headquartered in London, who have taken on these services in Kent will be able to support more people than ever before now that care and support services for adults who are deaf and have additional needs have been passed over to them.
Local registered care, outreach, day and supported living services faced closure after previous owners, the John Townsend Trust, went into administration in December 2015. Action on Hearing Loss stepped in to offer support following discussions between concerned families and the administrator, which had been running the services.
Charity Bank funded the transfer of services with support from Big Society Capital, ensuring continuity of support. Action on Hearing Loss asked Charity Bank to help through the provision of a loan as it wanted to act quickly against a tight timetable and to work with a bank that understands and specialises in the charity sector
Paul Breckell, Chief Executive at Action on Hearing Loss, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have been able to save these vital services in Westgate-on-Sea, enabling us to deliver our high standards of quality and person-centred approaches to more people who are deaf with additional needs.
“Working with Charity Bank, which understands our sector and was therefore willing and able to act quickly, secured this vital continuity for the people supported by the services.
Carolyn Sims, Banking Director at Charity Bank, said: “This timely intervention is a great example of a charity saving vital services for those in need. Action on Hearing Loss has an excellent track record in delivering care and support and we are delighted to have played our part to support the continuation of these essential services.”
Action on Hearing Loss now supports over 550 people who are deaf with additional needs across the UK.
