This week Blue and Green Tomorrow has partnered with English Heritage Membership to bring to you a selection of family days out to enjoy for Under £20. Enjoy endless days out with your family and friends at over 400 superb venues which are steeped in history.

Below English Heritage has picked out a few great examples of venues you can use your membership to visit.

BEESTON CASTLE & WOODLAND PARK, CHESHIRE

Explorers of all ages will love a day out at Beeston Castle. With its woodland walks, Robin Hood cave, and lookout point at the top of a rocky summit, the castle is a fantastic destination for nature-lovers and adventurous children. We’ve put together wildlife trails to take you through the beautiful surrounding woodlands where you can spot a host of birds and small mammals, and there’s even the chance to hunt for the lost treasure of Richard II, believed to be buried somewhere in the castle grounds.

GOODRICH CASTLE, HEREFORDSHIRE

From the keep’s dramatic views over the Wye Valley to the Civil War cannon that can be found in the courtyard, Goodrich Castle is a quintessential medieval stronghold that visitors of all ages will enjoy exploring. An audio tour telling the history of the fortress is included in the ticket price, and the castle towers and dry moat offer kids a fantastic setting for battle adventures and games of hide and seek!

LULLINGSTONE ROMAN VILLA, KENT

A great site to visit whatever the weather, discover the fascinating story of Roman Britain at Lullingstone Roman Villa. Visitors can see spectacular mosaics, a heated bath-suite and rare wall paintings, all brought to life in a film and light show. The interactive museum offers children plenty of hands-on activities with the chance to play Roman board games, handle original building materials, and try on Roman costumes. And if the sun is out, make sure to enjoy a stroll through the surrounding meadows of the Darent Valley.

The atmospheric ruins of Whitby Abbey offer one of the best value days out in Yorkshire and the historic site is also home to one of our favourite visitor centres. But beware, the abbey is well known for its ghostly goings on so make sure to have your wits about you as you wander around the eerie grounds…
