Flooding Hits Cumbria Yet Again – Friends of the Earth Reaction
Reacting to news that flooding has again hit Cumbria, Friends of the Earth climate campaigner Guy Shrubsole said “It’s heart-breaking that Cumbria is flooding yet again, with Glenridding hit for the fourth time this winter. This is a further sign our weather is being super-charged by climate change.
“The Government must stop trying to defend its inadequate track record on flooding and start to properly defend our homes and businesses from the impacts of climate change.”
Commenting on today’s publication of the terms of reference for Oliver Letwin’s National Flood Resilience Review, Guy Shrubsole added:
“It’s encouraging that Oliver Letwin recognises the need to urgently update climate change modelling, and do more to promote natural flood management measures, like tree planting.
“But with the world heading for 3 degrees of global warming, the floods review needs to prepare the UK for potentially devastating levels of climate change, and ramp up flood defence investment accordingly.”
