#1o5C: Call to limit global warming to below 1.5°C
With just over five weeks until COP21, supporters of the 1.5°C goal and the #1o5C online campaign will gather at the main entrance of the UN conference centre in Bonn to launch a new online platform.
The Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) and CARE International have launched an online platform at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations to call for more support to the worldwide campaign to limit global warming to below 1.5°C.
The platform is online here. Everyone can join by tweeting using the #1o5C hashtag.
Climate change already amplifies the frequency and severity of climate shocks around the world, placing more and more people in life threatening danger. Limiting the global temperature increase to 2°C is simply not enough. Keeping warming below 1.5°C ensures the survival of the most vulnerable countries and communities.
The UN climate conference COP21 in Paris will decide whether to keep the 2°C goal or to strengthen it to 1.5°C. More than 100 nations already support the strengthened goal, and others can still change their position to ensure the safety and prosperity of the most vulnerable populations in the world.
CARE International is a leading humanitarian organisation fighting global poverty and delivering lifesaving assistance in emergencies. Through its Poverty, Environment and Climate Change Network (PECCN), they seek to empower poor and marginalised people to take action on climate change at all levels and to build knowledge for global change.
The Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) is an international partnership of countries highly vulnerable to a warming planet. Founded in 2009 and currently chaired by the Philippines, the Forum serves as a South-South cooperation platform for its 20 participating governments from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Pacific to act together to deal with global climate change.
