With just four sleeps until the big day, Blue & Green Tomorrow is encouraging readers to think about donating even a small amount over the festive period to one of the many children’s charities doing exceptional work. Today, it’s Barnardo’s.

Founded in 1866 by Dr Thomas John Barnardo, the charity was named after its father and aimed to care for vulnerable children and young people left orphaned by the outbreak of cholera who would have otherwise been forced into work houses.

The charity has been with vulnerable children every step of the way in the fight to give them opportunities. Today, they provide more than 100,000 young people and their families with a diverse range of support services, including counselling, fostering, adoption, education, residential and training services.

For some, Christmas time isn’t the happy time that it is supposed to be, and some young people will go through traumatic experiences that no child should have to go through. Barnado’s says that, “1 in every 4 children in the UK lives in poverty. This cannot go on. With your support this Christmas, we can help the most vulnerable children in the UK turn their lives around and break out of the vicious cycle of poverty.”
