First Anniversary Of Paris Agreement : WWF-UK Reaction
Trevor Hutchings, Director of UK and EU Advocacy at WWF-UK has commented on the first anniversary of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, with the following statements.
“It has been a year since 197 countries united to tackle climate change, and we must now focus on implementation. While the UK Government has taken the necessary and welcome steps of ratifying the Paris Agreement, more than 80 other countries still need to do so.
There is now more than ever a pressing need to limit climate change to safeguard our global biodiversity
With global wildlife populations predicted to decline by 67% by the end of the decade there is now more than ever a pressing need to limit climate change to safeguard our global biodiversity.
We look forward to the UK Government showing further international leadership when it publishes its promised emissions reduction plan next year. This needs to be strong and ambitious in order to help unlock the jobs and export opportunities which arise from going low carbon.”
