The UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC) has today responded to news that the UK have now ratified the Paris Agreement.
The Paris Agreement’s central aim is to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change by keeping a global temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Julie Hirigoyen, Chief Executive at UK-GBC, said:
“We are delighted that the UK has now ratified the Paris Agreement, cementing our commitment to tackling climate change.
Buildings currently account for almost one third of global carbon emissions and have been identified as one of the more cost-effective carbon abatement opportunities
“Buildings currently account for almost one third of global carbon emissions and have been identified as one of the more cost-effective carbon abatement opportunities. It is now vital for the industry to show strong leadership and innovation in achieving a 1.5°C world.
“The UK Government must support these efforts through a decisive, ambitious and long-term policy framework. The upcoming Industrial Strategy and Emissions Reduction Plan are key opportunities for Government to give the industry the clarity and certainty it needs to take action.”
