WWF Indicate Edinburgh & Glasgow Road Congestion Is To Cost Billions
Today WWF Scotland director, Lang Banks, has responded to a study published reporting that time wasted in the UK’s worst traffic jams will cost motorists £62 billion by 2025. He said:
“People will be astonished to learn that congestion caused by having too many cars on our roads is costing our economy billions of pounds. However, once you factor in environmental impacts such as air pollution and carbon emissions the cost to society is even greater.
“If we are to tackle congestion and cut pollution, we need to see a step-change in our transport systems with greater emphasis on public transport and a shift from petrol and diesel to electric vehicles. With Government renewing its climate change action plan, and carbon emissions from transport having barely fallen since 1990, we urgently need to see bolder policies in this area.”
