Bristol financial advisers scoop Fairtrade award

Green and ethical investment specialists Stewart Investment Planning picked up a bronze award for the best Fairtrade office at the South West Fairtrade Business Awards last week.

Taking place on March 8 at Bristol’s Colston Hall, the event was opened by George Ferguson – the mayor of Bristol – to over 160 business leaders from the region. In total, 46 businesses achieved bronze, silver and gold awards in various categories.

The event aims to boost sales of Fairtrade by promoting and appreciating businesses that buy, sell and use Fairtrade products, thus helping to support smallholder farmers in developing countries.

Dragon’s Den competitor Levi Roots presented the awards, and he explained to the audience how a recent visit to a Fairtrade cocoa farm in Ghana had inspired him, adding that Fairtrade products had contributed greatly to global community development.

Stewart Investment Planning, based in Bristol, won a bronze award for the second consecutive year.

Managing director Martin Stewart said, “Winning this award is an excellent addition to and recognition of Stewart Investment Planning’s corporate social responsibility commitments and our specialist advice service in green and ethical investments.

Where we all choose to save and invest our money can have a real impact on communities and the environment. You can aim to make money and make a difference.”

Stewart has previously spoken with Blue & Green Tomorrow, discussing the “strong inner-battle” between his work and his personal beliefs, and how they had guided him towards ethical investment.
