Spending term of the day: fair trade
Fair trade is a social movement that aims to pay producers, workers and farmers in the developing world fair prices for their goods and services, in an effort to make the market more sustainable and alleviate poverty.
It is important to note that, even though they are often used interchangeably in common parlance, the Fairtrade Organisation (and the Fairtrade mark) is only one part of the fair trade movement as a whole. The latter refers to a particular economic ethos that can be (and has been) adopted by a number of different groups, including the Fairtrade Organisation.
