Scottish Renewables’ responds to Hywind floating wind farm contract award
Statoil has awarded a contract to Isleburn Limited (part of Global Energy Group located in the Highlands and Aberdeen) to build 15 suction anchors for the Hywind floating offshore wind project.
Hannah Smith, Policy Officer at Scottish Renewables, said: “Hywind is a really exciting project – putting Scotland firmly on the floating offshore wind map.
“The international market for this innovative technology is set to expand, and Scotland has a huge opportunity to leverage our expertise and be at the forefront of developing it. That opportunity will only be harnessed with the right support from our government and enterprise agencies.
“Scotland boasts a fantastic supply chain, with the facilities and expertise ready to service the most cutting-edge developments.
“The contract awarded today is an excellent step towards Scotland taking full advantage of the opportunities presented by floating offshore wind, and we hope to see more success from Scottish suppliers as the sector develops.”
