Bank holiday weather: Britain prepares for mixed weekend

After a week that featured the hottest day of the year so far and several thunderstorms, the weather outlook for the spring bank holiday weekend doesn’t look too bright.

On Saturday, heavy rain will make its way westwards across England and Wales, with rare sunny intervals, according to the Met Office.

Sunday will be showery in the north but generally drier in the south, with warmer temperatures – reaching 16-17C – around London. Improvement is expected from the south heading into a warmer Monday.

Trafficmaster and the AA predict that there will be as many as 17m cars on Britain’s roads this weekend, as holidaymakers make the most of the half-term break.

Any vacationers thinking of sustainability are advised to travel by train where possible, as it is a far more energy efficient form of transport. National Express will also be providing 10,000 extra seats on its coaches over the weekend.
