Council Face Fracking Decision in Yorkshire
The fate of Ryedale in North Yorkshire will be sealed at a council meeting today. A report sent to the planning committee at North Yorkshire Council earlier this month recommended that the Council approve fracking near Ryedale. Friends of the Earth are urging North Yorkshire Council to listen to the people of Ryedale and keep it a fracking-free area.
Simon Bowens, Yorkshire and Humber campaigner for Friends of the Earth, said: “Today the council will listen to concerns from individuals, businesses, experts, and councillors representing Ryedale to decide on the future of fracking.
“The council need to represent the democratic wishes of people in Ryedale who emphatically do not want fracking to scar where they live.
“Next week marks the 5th anniversary of the one failed attempt to frack in this country. This is the opportunity to say no to the industry, they can’t do that to North Yorkshire.”
