Family farming in developing and developed countries and the role it plays for food security will be the central topic of Slow Food’s Salone del Gusto, which focuses on sustainable agriculture and food biodiversity and will take place in Italy in October.
Blue & Green Tomorrow is currently running a crowdfunder to ensure its survival. Please pledge.
The International Salone del Gusto-Terra Madre is an event organised by the Slow Food movement, which encourages consumers to support local and sustainable food productions.
The event – which has the support of the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) features a number of communities from all over the world, each of which represents and supports a typical product (‘presidia’).
This year, a great emphasis will be placed on family farming and on Africa’s role in the global food system, as Slow Food supports many projects in the company, such as 10,000 community gardens, with the aim to fight land grabbing.
However, the issues that will be explored during the conferences, cooking classes, movies and workshops of the event will be various, from impacts of climate change, to sustainable animal farming, food waste, biodiversity and food and water security.
Visitors will be allowed to learn more about the various challenges the world faces thanks to the participation of various international experts and academics – but also taste and buy the unique and quality foods brought from all over the world, from saffron and cheeses to coffee, beer and wine.
The event will take place in Turin, Italy, from 23 to 27 October. Visitors can buy a one-day ticket in advance for €20 (£16) or a five-day pass for €60 (£47).
