Ten sustainable energy companies have been selected as finalists for this year’s International Ashden Awards. The awards champion organisations and individuals working within sustainable energy.

The finalists come from Bangladesh, Costa Rica, India, Kenya, Mexico, Pakistan and Vietnam. Those making up the shortlist work across a diverse range of areas, from a development bank offering soft loans to low-carbon building developers at a low interest rate to an NGO bringing electricity for the first time to remote communities in northern Pakistan.

From the shortlist five winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on June 11. Winners will receive an award worth up to £40,000, as well as global recognition.

Sarah Butler-Sloss, Ashden founder and director, said, “At Ashden we focus on rewarding sustainable energy game-changers that are addressing two of the most pressing challenges of our time: climate change and poverty. This year we have 21 finalists from four continents that are dramatically cutting carbon emissions, boosting local economies, reducing poverty and making a real difference to people’s lives.”
