World-renowned UK Energy Expert Appointed to Catapult Board

Prof. Neil Strachan, an interdisciplinary energy economist at University College London (UCL) Energy Institute, has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director of the Energy Systems Catapult.

As well as being the Professor of Energy Economics and Modelling at the Energy Institute, Prof. Strachan is also the Institute’s Deputy Director. In recent years Prof. Strachan was the principal investigator of the Whole Systems Energy Modelling Consortium (wholeSEM), the UK’s ground-breaking, multi-institution initiative to develop, integrate and apply state-of-the-art energy models.

Of his appointment to the Board, Prof. Strachan said: “I am really excited to be joining the Board of the Catapult at such an early stage in its development. I am looking forward to working across the sector to support and enhance the UK’s energy networks.”

Nick Winser, the Chair said: “I am thrilled that Neil will be joining the Catapult as a Non-Executive Director. His impressive research skills and experience in the energy arena will be a great addition to the Board.”

Prof. Strachan received his PhD in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University in 2000. He is the author of more than 40 peer reviewed journal papers and over 100 book chapters and technical reports. He was also the lead author of the Energy Systems chapter of the IPCC’s 5th Assessment Report.

Prof. Strachan will join the Board on 1st April 2016.
