Homebuilder Sustainability Rankings : UK-GBC Responds
The UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC) has today reacted to the publication of the NextGeneration 2016 benchmark report. The report has assessed and ranked the UK’s 25 largest homebuilders on their sustainability performance.
Julie Hirigoyen, Chief Executive at UK-GBC said:
“In his recent Autumn Statement, the Chancellor outlined the Government’s desire to deliver ‘a housing market that works for everyone’. Evidence shows that the quality of homes has a marked impact on both people’s pocket and their health and wellbeing. In the current economic context, it’s more important than ever that new homes and communities are built to the highest standards, to shield buyers from future energy price rises and reduce the burden on the NHS of poor mental and physical health.

“The companies featured in the leading rankings of the 2016 NextGeneration benchmark demonstrate that building high quality developments is not just possible, it is core to what they do. Congratulations to UK-GBC Gold Leaf member Lendlease for topping this year’s benchmark, and to all those other developers who continue to demonstrate commitment to building high quality, sustainable homes. There remains a significant gap between leaders and laggards which the industry must address if it’s to meet the pressing sustainability challenges ahead.”
